Equality and Diversity Policy

Last updated: [TO CONFIRM]

Waltham Forest Adult Skills Centre CIC exists to remove barriers to learning. We are committed to treating every learner, member of staff, volunteer and partner fairly, and to providing an inclusive environment free from discrimination, harassment and victimisation.

1. Legal framework

This policy reflects the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty where it applies to our delivery. The protected characteristics are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

2. Our commitments

  • Recruit, enrol and support learners on merit and need, never on assumption.
  • Make reasonable adjustments so disabled learners can take part fully.
  • Provide learning materials and communication in accessible formats on request.
  • Use inclusive teaching that reflects the diversity of Waltham Forest.
  • Deliver courses in trusted community venues that are physically accessible wherever possible.
  • Challenge discriminatory language and behaviour whenever it occurs.

3. Reasonable adjustments

Learners can request support at enquiry, initial assessment or at any point during a course. Requests are discussed confidentially with a tutor and reviewed with the learner. Awarding body access arrangements are applied for where a qualification is involved. Named contact for learning support: [TO CONFIRM].

4. Responsibilities

  • Senior management: set the policy, monitor outcomes and provide resources.
  • Tutors and staff: apply the policy day to day and report concerns.
  • Learners: treat others with respect and follow the learner agreement.
  • Partners and venue hosts: uphold equivalent standards in shared delivery.

5. Reporting discrimination or harassment

Anyone can raise a concern with their tutor or by emailing admin@walthamforestadultskillscentre.com. Concerns are handled under our Complaints Policy and, where a learner may be at risk, our Safeguarding Policy. We acknowledge reports within [TO CONFIRM].

6. Monitoring and review

We collect voluntary equality monitoring data at enrolment and review participation, achievement and progression by protected characteristic each year. Published monitoring summary: [TO CONFIRM]. Next policy review: [TO CONFIRM].
